The Best of Remedies is Hijamah (Wet Cupping Therapy)

As a Muslim, a lover of beloved Mohammad (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) and a medical student, I believe with all my heart, that if you want to live a healthy life, just follow the ways that were practiced and taught by Mohammad (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) . Last week when I came back home from hospital, my mother called me to watch a TV program that was on hijamma. When the program ended, my mother asked me to write an article on hijamma. She said that it was practiced by our beloved prophet Muhammad SAW on a regular basis and people should know about this.

Anas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said,

“Indeed the best of remedies you have is cupping (hijamah).”

[Saheeh al-Bukhaaree (5371)].

Hijamah or Al-Hijamah is another name of wet cupping therapy. It is the most effective type of cupping therapy. Mohammad (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) is the first documented user of hijamah. He not only practiced hijamah for Himself but ordered His Ummah to do the same.

In hijamah, mild suction is created using a cup on the selected area and it is left there for about three minutes. The cup is then removed and small superficial skin incisions are made using a cupping scalpel. A second suction is used to carefully draw out a small quantity of blood.[1]

To get the maximun out of hijamah, it should be done in the following days:

Annas ibn Maalik (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said,

“Whoever wants to perform cupping (hijama) then let him search for the 17th, 19th and 21st day (of the Islamic, lunar month).

[Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3486)].

Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger (Sallallaahu Álayhi Wasallam) said:

“Cupping (hijama) on an empty stomach is best. In it is a cure and a blessing. It improves the intellect and the memory. So cup yourselves with the blessing of Allah on Thursday. Keep away from cupping (hijama) on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to be safe. Perform cupping (hijama) on Monday and Tuesday for it is the day that Allah saved Ayoub from a trial. He was inflicted with the trial on Wednesday. You will not find leprosy except (by being cupped) on Wednesday or Wednesday night.” [2]

[Saheeh Sunan ibn Maajah (3487)].

The medical benefits of hijamah are countless. Some of them are listed below:

* By creating a localized wound, hijamah stimulates the immune system and activates the formation of white blood cells that prevents us from infections.

* It purifies the blood and increases the formation of blood by stimulating the formation of red blood cells.

* It mobilizes the blood flow and improves healing.

* It stimulates the release of harmful toxins from the body.

* It helps in boosting the immune system of the body.

* It promotes the release of hormones that reduces stress and depression.

* It increases the blood flow to the affected area, resulting in sufficient flow of nutritions and increased clearance of the debris.

* It improves the function of different organs of the body.[3]

Hijamah has done miracles in treating the diseases .e.g. Constipation, diarrhea, headache, backache, arthritis, menarche, asthma, fatigue, anemia, stress, depression, atrophy, sciatica, diabetes mellitus, cold and flu, skin problems, weight loss and many more. It is not only used to cure diseases but also reduces the risk of many diseases. For me, it is more than a worship than a remedy. I am going to get hijamah very soon. I really wish after reading this article, you will also go for it.

(All the benefits listed here are from the online resources and are not, in any way, based on research.)
